Pervious concretes like Osmocrete are manufactured using
controlled amounts of water and cementious materials to
create a paste that forms a coating around the aggregate
particles. However, unlike most pervious concrete
which utilize Portland cement, Osmocrete employs an
award-winning ceramic cement which increases mechanical
strength while reducing the amount of cementious
material required to coat and bind the aggregate.
Typically pervious concrete mixtures like
Osmocrete contain little or no sand which creates
significant void content which is highly permeable to
water.
In fact, permeable
concretes typically have between 15% and
25% voids and water flow rates around 480 in./hr (0.34 cm/s, which is 5
gal/ft²/ min or 200 L/m²/min).
